The M6, Britain’s longest motorway

The Longest motorway in Britain is the M6 at 230 miles long, however when you try to bike pack the longest motorway trying to stay closish to that roaring road but finding the left over off-road trails that distance becomes about 300 miles (500km). Starting near a small town called rugby and finishing at the Scottish boarder, this is a unique experience to travel along the longest motorway.

The idea came after a fun adventure around the busiest road in Britain the M25 in a loop around London, the next logical thing would be to cycle the longest motorway, and besides I needed to go to Scotland so why the hell not.

The route itself uses a lot of bridal ways country lanes and cycle paths (some of which are alongside busy roads) Its not your average bike packing trip where you won’t often find yourself in the peaceful quiet countryside, well you will kind of, but you will always have that roar from the m6. Pretend its the crashing of a waterfall or something :D

The route is just over 300 miles long so it’s not really short, and unfortunately it seems like a lot of the bridal ways along this route just don’t get maintained to well and if you take this route on at the start of summer when everything is growing, you will be enjoying plenty of thorny over grown trails. This isn’t your traditional type of bike packing route like I said, but it was still a fun experience, so feel free to give it a go if you like.
