Ortleib roll top frame bag

Ortleib roll top on Xlarge bombtrack beyon plus

The Ortleib roll top frame bag, I have had this on the Bombtrack for what feels like quite a while now, and the only fault it ever has is the little rubber bands that hold it closed, do become brittle and end up breaking, however they sell replacements, and they are cheap so it’s really not such and issue. But just like everything there are some downsides and upsides and this bag is no different.

The bag is very simple just one large carrying compartment 6L in total, that is no little pockets no outside pockets to stash rubbish. See very simple, the advantage to this is that there isn’t really much to go wrong, in fact I honestly think this bag will last for ages and ages, there really isn’t any stress points on the bag when in carrying stuff so as long as I can replace the little orange things i don’t actually see me breaking this one.

It’s normally the zips that I end up breaking (damn things) the advantage of the no zips comes in that this bag is actually waterproof (like REALLY) as much as these bike companies like to tell us their zips are waterproof, I have yet to find that actually to be true. But the lack of zips does mean this frame bag is Inaccessible while riding, if you want or need to get something out you will need to stop. This doesn’t matter to me on the Bombtrack, but I couldn’t live with that on the gravel bike, where I’m more likely going to be riding faster for longer and might not be wanting to stop.

This bag has can carry a lot and that can potentially lead to some bulging, I don’t seem to find that a problem, the big frame I find it creates enough tension so it can’t really bulge that much. But it does have a little Velcro strap to help stop that, although I found that it just got a bit annoying because it would make putting things in and taking things out awkward it just gets it the way a bit. So I haven’t bothered using it. The only thing that very occasionally that has happened with this bag it that if it is really full, you can catch your leg on the little hook that the little orange things hook to. Doesn’t happen too often, sometimes when on awkward climbs.
