Ortleib 9L bar roll bag

The 9L Ortleib bar roll bag I have here has now been on the bike packing bikes for about a year and a half now as of Feb 24th 2024. And for intensive purposes it has done everything I need a bar roll bag to do, that is hold my tent and a waterproof jacket and sometimes the tarp as well, for the most part my Patagonia 3 layer torrent shell jacket and the alpkit soloist have what have been living in here since I got this bag.

There really isn’t too much to say its a bar roll bag and they mostly all feel the same to me, this one does have some things I do like though and one of them things is the additional oranges straps around the Velcro bar strap this make the bag nice a tight to the bars, the Velcro straps are always a bit hard to get nice and snug they seem to always be to short or to long but with the added orange straps in doesn’t matter so much. The bag does sit nice on the bike and its doesn’t really move so much as long as you make sure everything is tight, with the big chunky foam pads you will retain some extra hand room on the bars but if you are riding a smaller bike it might make it to close to the tyre i ride a 60cm bike in these pictures.

The only really negative thing I have found with this bag is the head tube straps (this is always the first thing to break on these bags in my experience) and the ortleib bar roll bag is no different, there are 3 different loops to attach this bag to the head tube, and I am down to just one left, after that it’s either try to fix it myself or see if ortleib would fix this, I will probably try the latter and see what they say.

The bag apart from that damage though is still waterproof is easy to use with the double entry and feels good when attached to the bike, I do wish they would have added the little bungee cord onto the 9L version like they did with their 15l version. I would buy it again, hopefully I won’t have to anytime soon though as it retails at £120, although it can normally be picked up a bit cheaper than that.
