The North Downs Way

The North Downs Way is a really popular walking trail across the south-east England but did you know there is also a cycling version that uses a lot of the same trails, well all the bridal way section at least. And in this version I have extended it to carry on to Dover, so if you ever want to escape England, not a bad way out of the country. There is lots and lots of flowing single track trails along this route, and it is mostly really well sign posted. Where the walking trail and the cycling trail go in different directions, just follow the little bike sign.

I personally think this is a great beginner route to get yourself out on the trails, if you are thinking of doing some other bikepacking routes then this is a good place to get some training in. Because it will get you used to riding a loaded bike off-road while testing you a little bit here and there, but not too much that its not enjoyable.

The trails are normally sheltered with trees either side as you pedal along the single track which means you get a bit of protection from the wind, but I guess it does block the views, however if you get out there in bluebell season it is beautiful.

MTB or Gravel bike with 40mm tyres or bigger I think will work well along this route, in the dryer months the trails are hard compact mud so its quite smooth for the most part.
