The adventure to the really secret Scottish pyramid, I promise it’s really secret shhh don’t tell anyone about it. I wanted a change from the endless UK bike packing routes that go everywhere but not really anywhere, travelling around in a big loop is fun an all, but sometimes it is about the destination as well as the journey so what better place to go visit the secret pyramid (Prince Alberts cairn) by its official name.

This route starts right on the England, Scotland boarder at Gretna, and sees you traverse some pretty tough going landscapes through the lowlands of Scotland to the cairngorms national park where this secret pyramid is located.

The route is not easy going as the terrain is sometimes just hard to ride, There is lots of beautiful double track and incredible views, but it’s a route that will put a grimace on your face at the time as you hike over some steep terrain. At times, that nice double track you were following ends, and you will be making your way along sheep trails until you finally find yourself reunited with that double track once more.

When I rode this route, I did it on a gravel bike, and it was hard work, but I’m not actually sure I could have ridden the hike a bike sections even if I was on my MTB. The ridable parts are ridable on either bike, but the hike a bike sections are hike a bike, what ever bike you take this on. But the reward for your hard work is something quite unique a little hidden gem the prince alberts carin, tucked away in the forest, is a must-see.
