The alpkit hunka bivvy, you might spot this bivvy on the odd adventure on the channel it is normally reserved to either when I know I need to stealth camp, or it’s really nice or when I want to go fast and far with not a lot of sleep. The bivvy is light 400 grams, fast to set up.

The bivvy is by far the easiest sleeping system to set up, just place it on the ground stick a pad and sleeping bag (in my case just a sleeping bag) and you are good to go. If you didn’t know already what a bivvy is, it’s essentially a waterproof coat for your sleeping bag. This one doesn’t have a zip, just a drawstring hood. It’s very simple, and the advantages and disadvantages are probably pretty obvious. There is little protection from the elements, you would normally use this with a tarp, but I tend to use this style of bivvy either when I know its going to be a beautiful dry starry night or when I’m going fast and far and might only be sleeping a two or three hours a night.

I can’t fault the hunka I have slept outside in the rain with no tarp, and it has kept me and my sleeping bag dry, it packs down pretty small, there are lighter and smaller packing bivvies out there, but this one is also not too expensive around £50 for the regular size, and yes I have the regular size one, because I bought it second hand and it is on the smaller side for me, but I can just about squeeze into it. The only slight downside is it can be a little awkward to get in an out as there is no zip like I mentioned. So it’s a bit of a shuffle to get it.
