The M25, Britain’s Busiest Road
Ahhh the M25, Britain’s busiest road not somewhere you might first think of when you think to go on a bikepacking adventure. However, with all the ancient woodlands that surround it, it is a brilliant place to explore, great for beginners too as it can be broken down into as many sections as you like, complete it in a couple of days or over time. Being so close to the capital means you can get on and off the route nice and easy. The obvious downside to a ride like this is it’s close to the busiest road, that means it can be quite noisy. So you might need to take some ear plugs if you decide to wild camp along this route. You might be surprised to hear, but it’s actually really easy to wild camp along this route, as you will find yourself, cycling through lots of woodlands, I took the hammock on this trip and it was a great choice.
This route is probably best to tackle in the dryer summer months (if we ever get any) because with the nature of riding through lots of wooded trials, they take a while to dry out so can become very muddy. I was still able to manage to get through most of the mud on the gravel bike with 50mm tyres though.
Also being so close to the capital does mean you will have to ride with traffic in places so don't ride this if you are not comfortable with some traffic, it’s mostly off-road and away from traffic however does get busy coming through some of the towns.
